Radon Test Results 2024-01-31

We’ve started planning to build another house — we love the yurt, but it is getting too small for us. We want to do the research, draw blueprints, etc while we are on the road and start construction as soon as we get back. It is an ambitious schedule, so we will have to see.

We’ve been thinking about a two story, round house built partially into our mountain (so the house would be earth sheltered), that would be about 2300 square feet.

As a prerequisite we did a radon test (in the root cellar) prior to leaving. We got the test results back today and… radon is abundant. The root cellar has levels approximating equal to those in a uranium mine.

I’ll need to do some more research on radon mitigation, but we expect that this will scrap our previous design, and we will want something fully above ground, no earth sheltering, etc.
