Mushrooms! 2023-10-01

Each fall we have a mushroom bloom where the forest comes alive with mushrooms. Then the squirrels come and harvest the mushrooms, hang them in trees to dry, and store them for the winter.

This fall has been extraordinarily warm and wet — we usually have a frost that kills off the garden the last week of August or the first week of September, and here we are in October with no frost in sight. This has made the bloom particularly large and long this year.

So after general conference today the kids and I went on an explore through the woods to collect images of some of the different kinds.
